Why would anyone steal light bills? It is the question on many persons lips today following the theft of electricity bills destined for Spanish Town, Old Harbour and surrounding areas.

The JPS said the thieves took the bills from mailmen it contracted to deliver them to customers.

The company has since issued a warning to members of the public that they are not to hand cash to persons claiming to collect payment on behalf of the company.

"Customers are also being reminded that any JPS employee seeking access to their premises should have photo identification verifying their status," the JPS said.
